by Penny Reid

At first her voice was amusing: light and frothy, some funny descriptions, quirky heroine. Ultimately it didn’t keep me on for the ride. I got through about 15% of it. It was like a fancy car with no engine. Cute and quirky can only go so far with no substance to go with it. I just got bored with it. I didn’t care enough to follow along to the inevitable outcome. I skipped to the last chapter and the epilogue, and I had to skip through that! I struggle to put my finger on why some light, funny, and frothy romances work (M.C. Beaton/Marion Chesney, Kinsella) and some don’t. It’s funny how the good ones seem to have found legit publishers, though. But maybe this was just a fluke. I did like one of her other ones. The jury is still out on Penny Reid.
